Writing Tips for Aspiring Authors

  1. Protect the emotional flow of your draft
I always draft straight through to completion because the emotional truth of the moment matters too much to interrupt. Let the scene breathe. Let the characters speak. Don’t stop yourself mid‑feeling.
  2. Write in the voice the story demands
Sometimes articulate, sometimes raw, sometimes street, sometimes poetic — it’s all intentional. Your characters should feel, speak, and exist on the page exactly as they are.
  3. Don’t be afraid to self‑edit
Some people say writers shouldn’t edit their own work, and I understand why. But no one understands the emotional context behind my words better than I do. I choose certain lines, rhythms, and shifts in tone for very specific reasons.
Self‑editing preserves the authenticity and texture I’m aiming for.
